Clean Brushes. Happy Brushes.

Well one thing I have learned through my growing love of makeup, is that it is so hard to clean my brushes.

I am going to be honest, people say to clean them every week or so, I used to clean mine once twice a year. Gross! I know. I’m ashamed to say it. I have tried many different brush cleaners, some low-end and some high-end. I have firmly agreed that Baby shampoo is hands down the best. It is super cleansing and gets all my brushes squeaky clean in a matter of minutes!! Johnson’s Baby Shampoo is not harsh-as it is made for a baby’s skin- in other words it won’t ruin your brushes like some other soaps would.

Another thing to be careful of with your brushes, is that they are going near our skin, depending on skin type, many random soaps could irritate and cause a rash or give you acne. We don’t want that!

Steps:

  1. turn your facet on, until it gets about room temperature. Wet your brushes bristles– the glue that connects the bristles to the handle, wears away from washing. (if handle is dirty use a little wet paper towel.
  2. Squeeze about a quarter size amount of shampoo into the palm, take a brush and move it in circular motions in your palm. (If your brush is really dirty I would repeat this step 1-2 more times)
  3. After you see suds and the brush looks clean (It should look clean before you rise it out), then you will rise off your brush and start on the next one.
  4. Once you have done all of the brushes, lay them down on a paper towel alternating the directions. Set them in a sunny place or a place that is warmer in the house, for me, my bathroom is extremely sunny (via. the picture)
  5. Come back to check on the brushes, the paper towels should be wet where the bristles were laying. Then transfer the brushes to a washcloth, and leave them to sit over night.  (The reason for the paper towels is so if any makeup runs out while laying down it wont stain the washcloth).

Disclaimer: Do this when you know you won’t be wearing makeup that day.

Hope this help!

Oh How I miss you. . .
